Artswork
UI DESIGN & DIGITAL BRAND REFRESH
Designing a refreshed brand identity and new website UI for Artswork, a charity that empowers young people through creativity, so they can build a better future - for themselves and others.
Artswork believes that no young person should be held back by their background or circumstances. They champion creative learning and expression as tools for personal and social change. Working as a freelance designer for ethical agency Kind, I was the designer on this project, responsible for updating the logo, refreshing the digital brand identity, and designing a user-centred, responsive website that reflected Artswork’s mission.
The objective of this project was to refresh Artswork’s visual identity and digital presence. In a crowded charity landscape, they needed to stand out, to clearly communicate their mission and to connect with their younger, creative audience. We needed to reflect the creativity at the heart of their work, and the website needed to clearly show their programmes, impact, and values in a way that felt accessible, engaging, and future-facing.
My role as part of this project taken on by Kind, an ethical creative agency for charities and non-profits, was as freelance designer. I began by designing wireframes based on insights from research and user needs workshops run by Kind.
From there, I refreshed the brand by introducing a bold new colour palette, modern fonts and brand assets to reflect the business.
The UI design focused on clarity and impact. Every page was designed to be mobile-friendly and easy to navigate, while still giving room for visual expression. I worked with modular blocks and page templates to give flexibility across content types, ensuring the team could build pages that felt consistent and unique at the same time. CTAs were positioned with purpose, making it easy for users to get involved and all user journeys were considered. There were 3 very different type of users so it was important to ensure each user could find what they needed easily.
The challenge in this project was finding the right balance between designing something creative enough to inspire young people, but also structured and accessible for educators, funders, and partners.
The outcome was a digital brand and website design that captured the essence of Artswork. The updated website and identity is far more aligned with the people they work with and the impact they create. The website is creative and playful, yet also professional and informative.
